FAQs

Have a question that isn’t answered below? Please email publicrelations@bruinbelles.com

I am a senior. Can I apply?

Yes! Every year, Belles has senior Baby Belles who contribute tremendously through their enthusiasm and commitment to our organization.

I applied to Belles before, but I didn’t get accepted. Can I apply again?

Yes! We encourage anyone who previously applied to Belles to re-apply. There is no disadvantage for applicants who indicate they have applied previously.

How many people are accepted into Belles each year?

The goal of the Bruin Belles Executive Board is to provide a meaningful experience to all of our members, which informs our value of quality over quantity. The total member population of BBSA stays at around 70 members each year, allowing us to contribute purposeful service to our community, provide our members with resources and support, and cultivate sincere friendship.

Because of our limited size, we unfortunately have to be selective during our recruitment process. BBSA generally admits around 20% of applicants each year.

Belles are driven and go after what they want. Please do not let fear hold you back from applying!

What are “Baby Belles?”

Baby Belles is the term we used to refer to our new members. During your first year in Bruin Belles, you are a Baby Belle.

When will I find out if I have been selected to have an interview?

Please refer to our “Schedule” page under the “Recruitment” tab for an in-depth timeline of the recruitment process.

What does the ideal Belles applicant look like?

There is not one ideal Belles applicant. We are not looking for a particular person to fit a particular mold. When reviewing your application, we want to know who you are, what you value, and how that informs your actions.

Do not say what you think we want to hear. The more genuine and true to yourself you are on your application, the better we are able to imagine how you would fit into our community in your own unique way.

How much are annual dues?

BBSA membership does require payment of annual dues. Because we are a student-run organization, we rely on our membership dues to pay for our operating costs. Dues for the 2024-2025 academic year will be $105 annually, or $35 quarterly.

Does BBSA offer financial aid?

Yes! BBSA values accessibility, which includes financial accessibility. All members are welcome to apply to our scholarship fund to cover their quarterly or yearly dues, if they are not in a financial position to pay their member dues.

Does Belles accept transfer students?

Yes!

Does Belles accept international students?

Yes!

Does BBSA have any religious or political affiliation?

Bruin Belles Service Association is not religiously or politically affiliated.

Does BBSA have winter recruitment?

No. BBSA only accepts applications in the fall quarter.

I will be studying abroad in the winter/spring. Can I still apply to Belles this fall?

Yes. If you plan to study abroad in the winter or spring of the current academic year, please indicate that on your application.

I am studying abroad during the fall (recruitment season). Can I still apply to Belles?

While we greatly prefer all of our Baby Belles to be present during their first quarter in BBSA, we occasionally make exceptions for new members that will be returning to campus in the winter. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
