Community Outreach

Welcome back Belles! We hope you all had an amazing summer and can’t wait to hear all about it! A couple of key points:

  • We highly recommend getting your hours in early in the quarter, before the Baby Belles arrive and before we are pummeled with schoolwork:

    • If you want to have access to more on-campus opportunities, ACEing Autism is hosting a series of UCLA-located events this quarter. HOWEVER, if you would like to do this, you MUST attend the training on 10/4 (more details in agenda). Would highly recommend!

    • Reading to Kids’ monthly event is happening on 10/11; however, all locations are already almost full. If you’re interested in this event, make sure to sign up ASAP. If you have not volunteered there before, you’ll need to create an account. 

    • The Fowler Museum is hosting an Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebration on 10/5 and needs volunteers; 4-8 Belles. 

    • Miles for Melanoma 5k is happening on 10/5 at Griffith Park (so pretty, so fun, so La La Land); last year, we participated in this by forming a team that ran/walked the event; if you’d like to just volunteer at the event, that is also possible, it is just an earlier shift. Either way, let us know soon so we can register you

    • Many YMCA events + Project Angel Food almost every day

  • To make logistics easier, we’ll be having everyone make an L.A. Works account

  • Who has a car? Who has a license and is insured?

  • Outreach Trainings

    • October 12th & 13th from 4-5 pm. Mark your calendars!

  • What types of CO events does everyone want to see more of this quarter?

    • Big CO event interest gauging (beach cleanup, food packaging, fundraising for a cause

us after you create an LA Works account and mark your calendars for outreach trainings and get your CO events in earlier so we’re not all scrambling Week 9 :)))))))))

Public Relations

Hello hello! I hope everyone had the most lovely summer! Currently, the PR office is busy with all things recruitment! If you would like to help out please let me know :)

Upcoming Recruitment Events!

  • Board & DBs are flyering on BruinWalk Weeks 1 and 2.

  • In-Person Open House is on Thursday 10/9 from 10am - 4pm in John Wooden Main Conference Room.

  • Online Open House is on Friday 10/10 from 2pm - 6pm on Zoom (find zoom link on my agenda). If you would like to help out with any of these events, you are more than welcome to, just Slack me!

For PR credit, we are reviving the “Social Media Correspondent” role for various Belles events. Every event will have TWO correspondent spots. Each correspondent will need to upload FIVE photos and ONE video to our shared Google Photos, and message me via Slack or email to notify me of completion.

IMPORTANT! Our UCLA gmails do not have full access to Google Photos, so please join the shared album with your personal email only (find join link on my agenda).

  • Like last year, reimbursements will only be granted if they are pre-approved by Natalia.

  • Make sure to pay your dues by the end of the quarter because otherwise Natalia will have to hunt you down. The sooner you pay, the better :)

Women’s Leadership

This week, I will be hosting our first women’s leadership workshop on Time and Energy Management on Thursday at 5:40PM. My wonderful DB’s (Sarah and Mia the GOATS) and I are finalizing the schedules for workshops for the rest of the quarter and will have the final schedule posted on our agenda next week!

Campus Culture

Chancellor’s Bruin Game Day Party

When: TBD (Reached out to Chancellor and waiting on response) → Number of Belles needed is also TBD

What: Volunteer opportunity helping at the Chancellor’s Parties on game days and enjoy a UCLA home football game right after. Our role would be to welcome and register donors to the party at the Rose Bowl and any Belle who volunteers will get a free parking pass as well as lunch! (We LOVE free stuff hehe). The event typically lasts for 4 hours prior to the game but exact time will be known soon.

  • Dancing With the Stars Movie Night!!

1 CC Credit + Centennial 8th Floor Room 856. Come support Jordan Chiles!

  • Women's Volleyball vs. Purdue

Who’s ready to rumble?? I know I am so come to the game this Thursday for 1 CC at Pauley   Pavillion at 7PM


DEI

Hi Belles! Keep an eye out for workshop dates and credit opportunities beginning week 2. Aanya and I will be meeting this weekend to plan the schedule. Also, we will be test running a new credit system within DEI - we are keeping the workshops but also want to add other credit opportunities such as visiting museums, cultural club events, potlucks, movies, etc. More to come on this! I hope you all enjoy a restful week 1.
